Abstract
Pottery from Mayen rapidly gained importance at the European market after the massive destructions of AD 355. The find assemblages discovered in the kilns of Mayen allow a chronological division of the production period between the middle of the 4th century until the first half of the 6th century into six phases. The continuity of this industry between late Roman times up to the Early Middle Ages is thus demonstrated. The phases can be identified supra-regionally as well and shall also provide a basis for typo-chronological analyses in future studies of »Mayen Ware«, also in its export regions.
