Abstract

In 2012-2013 a disturbed and hitherto archaeologically not documented large barrow with a diameter of 25 m and dating to the late Hallstatt period, was excavated at Rovná. The burial chamber was constructed of wood and on the ground surface; it had a square plan of 6.2 m × 6.1 m. Grave 1 from Rovná contained five bronze vessels and is thus one of the richest assemblages with extraordinary metal vessels in Bohemia. The grave furnishing demonstrates close relations to the western Hallstatt culture in Baden-Württemberg, some vessels are even produced in Italy. The basins with bead-and-reel rim of the variant Hundersingen are dated to the second half of the 6th and first half of the 5th century BC. This fits well to the dating of the other grave goods from barrow 1 of Rovná as the two fibulae with terminal knobs belong to Ha D3. The grave from Rovná is among the oldest burials with a two-wheeled wagon from the end of period Ha D in Bohemia.
