Abstract

Remains of a princely grave of the later Roman Principate from Wolfshagen an der Stepenitz (Gde. Groß Pankow, Lkr. Prignitz)?

In summer 1836 more than 3 km south of Wolfshagen in the field at the »Vorwerk Dannhof« a gold ring was discovered. It had been bent straight and was so far interpreted as a unique armring. However, using earlier publications it could now be identified a spiral fingerring with a broadened central piece of type 37 after Ch. Beckmann. Comparable fingerrings of gold are known only from princely graves of the later Roman Iron Age (period C2) (Haßleben grave 4, Gommern, Emersleben grave 2). Unfortunately it remains unclear whether the fingerring from Wolfhagen is a single find, part of a depot or of a grave.
