Abstract

Extensive hoards that are nearly completely composed of weapons are a striking phenomenon of the Late Bronze Age of Great Britain. By means of research in selected museums some of these depositions were registered in a catalogue including photographs. The artefacts were furthermore investigated regarding their traces of use. Many pieces show signs of combat action as well as those of voluntary destructions in the course of their ritual abandonment. Therefore, it has been proposed to interpret these depositions as material remains of sacrifices after military events.
