Abstract

The present paper deals with the outcome of a survey among members of the DGUF concerning the length of graduate and postgraduate studies at home and abroad as well as the degrees obtained. Of further interest were the development of the professional situation after entering the job market and the degree of personal contentment with the current state of employment. The results presented are discussed against the background of similar surveys and placed within the broader context of the contemporary university system in Germany. Generally, our study shows that for a more detailed picture of the prevailing conditions of university studies and the professional situation in pre- and protohistoric as well as in medieval archaeology further surveys are necessary.
