Abstract
Mankind was always interested in its past. This interest wants to be also answered. Because the mass media is the best way to reach many people, there are a lot of storys about the past in the media. According to the general opinion this interest should be settled through entertainment. Some people want also to make profi t out of it. “How did it really happen” seemed not to be very important. How should archeology, which is responsible for the study of the humans past, react to this situation? This article will take up a position concerning the presentation of the archeological research phenomenon in the media. The criticism thereby does not only apply to certain journalists, which are referred to generally accepted standards of journalistic ethics, but also to the archaeology.Statistics
