Wirtschaftliche Determinanten von Archäologie und Bodendenkmalpflege. Versuch einer Annäherung an ein sensibles Thema

Abstract

At first glance, archaeology and the economy are two very different subjects. An attempt is made here to illustrate various economic aspects of archaeology. An outline of the problems involved allows a closer look at some of those aspects. For example, archaeological projects are of increasing significance in the promotion of regional development in different areas of Germany. Their impact
on the local labour market is as important as their role in international networking on major projects destined to give whole regions a new image. An attempt is also made to look into the future. Interdisciplinary cooperation in meeting the economic challenges will certainly provide new openings for archaeological activity.
