Abstract

In 1973, the first international meeting "Mesolithic in Europe", initiated by St. K. Kozlowski, took place in Warsaw. This first Symposium was repeated in 1978 (Potsdam), 1985 (Edinburgh), 1990 (Leuven), 1995 (Grenoble) and 2000 (Stockholm). From each meeting the Organizers have published conferencecontributions and more than 300 articles with altogether 3.600 pages convey a current and comprehensive information concerning especially
Northern European research in Mesolithic science. At the beginning, German
Mesolithic research played an important role, which has constantly decreased due to reduced financial support and missing jobs. It is to be hoped that this negative tendency will not increase and the German Mesolithic research will be better supported in the future.
