Archivieren oder kassieren? Überlieferungsbildung in Archiven

Abstract

Building on examples from the field of archaeology the paper gives an overview of the criteria of archival appraisal. In this context, the question is discussed to what extent the age, the amount, possible redundancies, the meaningfulness and importance of documents affect the decision on the archival value. The article argues conclusively for the development of documentation strategies with which the individual archives are able to develop and document their priorities. On this basis, a cooperative appraisal in dialogue with other archives is possible.
