Abstract

A new approach for the cooperation between heritage office and honorary office was needed due to the situation of mentoring numerous volunteers in the Bavarian heritage management. The pilot scheme “Archaeology and Honorary Office” had been launched as resolution und tested with large achievement. The pilot project is as “Subject area honorary office in heritage management” a permanent institution of the Bavarian State Office for Heritage Management since 2012. Subsequently, two scientists are responsible exclusively for consulting and mentoring of heritage volunteers as well as for the sponsorship of volunteer projects. This paper elaborates the fields of activity and presents a number of examples, insights and synergistic effects of such cooperation.
