Abstract

The future of the subject of archaeology lies in the students of allarchaeological fields. Among them will be the professors, heads of archaeological departments and museum curators of tomorrow, which is why it is precisely them who must be given an audience in the discussion and implementation of a professional association. It is essential that students have the opportunity to join such a professional association and actively participate in it already during their studies. In addition, a professional association should actively go to the universities and offer workshops and introductory events, or help to develop them in order to anchor the ideals and advantages of a professional association in the students’ minds at an early stage. We are aware that no association can fundamentally change university teaching. However, what can be changed by a professional association is the situation for student interns and volunteers through targeted political interventions. The Dachverband Archäologischer Studierendenvertretungen e. V. (DASV) and its members would like to see a seal of quality for institutions offering internships in addition to a commitment to fair competition in all archaeological areas, which, due to its ethical standards, may prevent the exploitation of students and other archaeologists and increases the quality of training. We, as DASV e. V., are also an active cooperation partner for the conception and implementation of such approaches.
