„Die sitzen doch alle am Elfenbeinturm!“ – Oder: Spannungsfelder in der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Bürgern und Forschern

Abstract

This paper describes the possible areas of tension that can emerge in the cooperation between citizens and scientists. In doing so, the author refers to her own experiences and current projects. In this work the life world of non-scientists is demonstrated and the view of the non-academic citizens on science and research is presented. It also describes citizens' interest in research and refers to the prevailing ivory tower mentality in science. Subsequently, the challenge of teaching science will be demonstrated and how it can be overcome with new media and new didactic concepts. This part is completed by activities that citizens can assume in citizen science projects. On Living History, it is shown which mutual benefit the integration of historical actors has on archaeology. Finally, the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” (CEFR) will be presented and explained. After all, the Citizen Science Conference 2017 in Vienna will be presented as bad practice and suggestions for improvements will be made for future events with citizen scientists. Finally, the question arises which significance archaeology and cultural heritage have for people and how the value of archaeology can be enhanced of the prestige for citizens.
