Abstract

For the first time ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis was carried out on two skeletons from Southern Germany to confirm the morphological diagnosis of Down syndrome. The results were unexpected and did not reveal any chromosomal changes in chromosome 21. Therefore, we reconsider the research discussion on people with trisomy 21 in history.
