Abstract

This article outlines the genesis and the objectives of the DGUF Conference 2020. The conference aimed to open up the subject of “Expansion of Contemporary Archaeology (AdM)”, which had been a topic of self-referential debate since 2015 among specialist archaeologists, to a broad range of archaeologists from other disciplines: Protagonists of AdM were to be offered the opportunity to explain the necessity of expanding AdM to the profession in all its disciplines, and critics the opportunity to debate their objections or suggestions with the experts. The aim of the DGUF as the organising body was to be able to close the conference in the best case scenario with a broad, mutually acceptable consensus and definite plans to realise solutions to shared concerns.
