Abstract

Students fulfill different roles within institutions of higher education and actively contribute to successful teaching and learning. For example, students work as (peer) tutors or contribute to various university projects aimed at proactively supporting teaching and learning. In this article, the student body authors aim to present three of their concrete projects organized during the summer term of 2020 in order to highlight the commitment and dedication of students in shaping the teaching and learning activities at Heidelberg University. In this vein, the article focuses on three distinct instances of active student participation, i.e. projects overseen by the specific student governance structures at Heidelberg (“Verfasste Studierendenschaft, or VS”). Because three separate projects are presented, different student authors were responsible for different sections describing their individual projects. The three specific student projects presented here are an “E-Learning Challenge”, a training program for student participation on university committees and in caucuses, and the “Long Night of Term Papers” overseen by the History Department’s student council.
