Abstract
In the course of rebuilding (19th century) and excavation activities (20th century) at the Protestant Church at Badenweiler eight big blocks of architecture were discovered. They belong to shafts of pilasters, a pilaster
capital, an attic and arches. Slight differences in ornamentation indicate that there was not only one arch, but a quadrifrons. The special situation of the Protestant Church can be understood as the place of a Roman temple, which could have been consecrated to Diana Abnoba, the goddess of the Black Forest. The long temple precinct following the natural slope included the holy source, which is still active today. The quadrifrons served as an external or internal propylon of the temple precinct.
