Abstract

As for 2019 and 2020, the DGUF surveyed the student and graduate numbers for Central European archaeology in 2021. This article documents the results of this survey. The main result is the significantly higher number of MA degrees, which – after a sharp, pandemic-related decline in 2020 – has returned to the level of 2019, i. e. before the pandemic. Compared to indicators of the labour market, especially in private sector archaeology, it is clear that despite this increase, the labour demand is higher than the number of graduates. A forecast for the next two to three years is possible and shows that this situation will continue for the foreseeable future.
