Abstract
In this article Gerhard Bersu‘s contacts with the Hungarian prehistorian Ferenc Tompa are reconstructed, also dealing with his influence on Hungarian archaeology. This reconstruction is based on the surviving correspondences mainly in Tompa‘s estate or in the archives of the Romano-Germanic Commission (RGK). The contacts with Tompa can be divided into four groups. The excavations in Goldberg or in Hungary (Tószeg, Lengyel, etc.), Tompa‘s role in the organizational work at the Danubian Study Trips (1929, 1933), Tompa‘s work on the 25 years of prehistoric research in Hungary for the reports of the RGK, and Tompa‘s role in the organizational work or in representing Bersu‘s interests in the Congrès International des Sciences Préhistoriques et Protohistoriques (CISPP). According to the source analysis, Bersu had an important impact on Tompa and also on Hungarian prehistory.
