Das „Abenteuer Frankfurt“*. Gerhard Bersus zweite Amtszeit im Spiegel seiner Korrespondenz mit Wilhelm Unverzagt

Abstract

This article reconstructs Gerhard Bersu‘s decision to return to Germany and outlines the issues he grappled with during his second term at RGK. Archived correspondence with his friend and colleague Wilhelm Unverzagt in East Berlin makes clear how
great the expectations were for the returning Bersu and the contradictory implications of the occupation, the subsequent German division, and the Cold War for efforts to reorganize archaeological institutions such as the RGK.
