Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic made the summer semester 2020 particularly challenging for students and lecturers alike. To find out what those challenges might mean for digital teaching and learning at the University of Heidelberg, the Studierendenrat (StuRa)/Student Council conducted a modular survey in June 2020. We analyzed the answers of over 4.000 participants to determine which circumstances were particularly challenging and which new or experimental measures proved successful during this extraordinary semester. The speed and ease of communication between instructors and students appeared to be key for a positive perception of a class regardless of the exact type (lecture or seminar). On the other hand, survey participants indicated that a lack of feedback in both directions hampered possibilities for the development of a digital feedback culture and resulted in raising stress levels and more pressure for students.
