Abstract

Conveying archeology at the museum is a specific responsibility. Often museum presentation focuses on the historical context by choosing only an historical approach; archaeological approaches, questions and analysis are neglected. The following paper aims to raise awareness of this particular conflict in archeological museums and shows how the conscious use of archeology at the museum can be realized in different contexts. This is done by using various examples from the museum‘s educational work of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier. The permanent exhibition of the museum, educational activities for classes or groups and the “archeology-van” which presents archaeological work outside of the museum to the schools and educational institutions are analyzed and discussed in this
thesis.
