Abstract

As part of a master’s thesis one of the Mesolithic flint inventories of the open air site Oelde-Weitkamp, in the eastern Münsterland, was scientifically evaluated. The emphasis of the research was placed on the analysis of the intrasite spatial patterning and the chronologically positioning of the inventory. The AMS dating of a charred hazelnut shell verified the result of the typochronological classification regarding the sequence of microliths via a correspondence analysis, which was dated to the period around 8000 BC.
The functional context of the site was revealed by the investigation of the encampment`s structure as well as the intrasite dynamics, including the interpretation`s results of the site`s findings. As the present stage we must assume that, considering these results, the find scatter represents multiple, short-term occurrences of settlement. These settlements were used to obtain aliments to supply a more distant base camp.
