Abstract
Peter Burnhill has proven the possibility of normalizing typefaces in early printing by evaluating its surviving printed matter. For this purpose he employed a relative system of sizes. This paper demonstrates the way we were able to reconstruct and substantiate Burnhill’s study with the help of software. As a result, Burnhill’s approach and the viability of computerized evaluation in relation to the size of images of written artifacts are corroborated.
