Überlegungen zur Darstellung und Erfahrung von Natur in naturhistorischen Sammlungen in der frühen Neuzeit

Abstract

During the eighteenth century collections played an important role in the exchange and dissemination of knowledge about natural history. While analysing the practice of visiting, discussing and publishing in this field, the following article describes the collection as a place of interaction and movement instead of ordering and display. Different to modern natural history collections their eighteenth century forerunners were places of close interaction between scientific research and popular curiosity.
